Singing and Music Theory

Music is a part of every day for each student at Memorial Lutheran. Not only do all students attend chapel each morning where they sing throughout the service, children from the twos program up have twice weekly general music classes and music is incorporated throughout our classroom curriculum as a teaching tool. Even the youngest students learn basic music theory in music class, quickly building on this foundation as they enter Lower School.

Our Lower School and Upper School Choirs perform throughout the school year in concerts as well as part of the church service on select Sunday mornings.

Instrumental Music

Strings

String instruction is offered to students in first grade and up. Students have weekly lessons either in small groups or individually.

Wind Instruments

Students begin instruction on wind instruments beginning in 5th grade. Students have band twice a week as well as weekly sectionals. In addition to traditional band, MLS also has a Jazz Band that performs at concerts and additional events throughout the school year. Our Upper School Band performs throughout the school year in concerts as well as part of the church service on select Sunday mornings.

Dr. Michael Staub serves as our Band director as well as being the Upper School Dean.

Theatre

Memorial Lutheran School is proud to boast a robust theatre program, performing four shows each academic year: a murder mystery dinner theatre in August, a drama or comedy featuring Upper School students in October, a show based on a classic tale featuring Lower School students in January, and a full-length musical in the Spring. Pastor Paul serves as Director of these shows and of the Theatre program overall.
